General resources available at the University of Valladolid

1) The UVa Library has a total surface area of 23,326 m2, with 19 service points that provide a total of 5,223 reading places. It houses 960,000 volumes of books in paper format, 15,725 titles of periodical publications, 18,211 scientific journals in electronic format, and offers inter-library loan services. From its website you can consult the bibliographic collection and access the different electronic resources subscribed to: Databases, Electronic Journals, Electronic Books and consult Subject Guides, as well as direct access to - DIALNET, the REBIUN collective catalogue and the bibliographic manager REFWORKS. 2) Bibliographic collections and research journals from Centres, Institutes and Departments.

3) Resources and scientific equipment of the Laboratory of Instrumental Techniques of the UVa, This central support service for research complements the equipment of the rest of the research entities of the UVa, focusing preferably on instrumentation of high cost and maintenance and multidisciplinary use and open to all research staff. It has, among others, the following research support units:

  • Acoustics and Vibrations Unit
  • XRD-XRF Diffraction and Fluorescence Unit
  • Nuclear Magnetic Resonance NMR Unit
  • Atomic Spectroscopy Unit ICP-OES/MS, AAS
  • Mass Spectrometry Unit GC/MS, MALDI-TOF, UPLC/GC-Q-TOF
  • MRI 3T/9.4T Magnetic Resonance Imaging Unit
  • Low Environmental Radioactivity Research Laboratory (LIBRA).

4) Resources and equipment of the Fundación Parque Científico de la Universidad de Valladolid, among others, it has the following research and transfer support units:

  • Electron Microscopy Unit
  • Infrared Thermography Service
  • Data Processing Centre
  • Centre for the Transfer of Applied Technologies (CTTA), a building in which the following services are offered:
  • Rental of rooms and laboratories for companies that require research and development of the UVa.
  • Spaces for spin-offs recently formed or in the launching phase.
  • Mixed units of researchers-companies. Among its functions is the promotion of university-business relations, directing university research to technological innovation and facilitating the transfer of knowledge to society.

5) Classrooms for activities of the Doctoral School located in the Alfonso VIII building, equipped with a multi-video conference system and streaming recording capacity for classes with students in different geographical locations.

6) High-capacity data network and wi-fi connection that allows interconnectivity and internet connection from all UVa buildings and facilities.

11) Grants from the Vice-Rector's Office for Research to finance stays by internationally renowned researchers at the Doctoral School with the aim of promoting doctoral training in different aspects, among others:

  • Professional guidance for doctoral students in order to ensure that programme graduates are suitably integrated into the labour market.
  • Information and resources for a professional research career.
  • Training in new skills and new professions: spin-off companies, information on self-employment, transfer of results, patents, protection of research results.
  • Guidance on information and knowledge management, scientific publications, quality indexes, indexed journals, peer review process, databases, etc.
